bux: Run a Persistent Browser Automation Agent on Your Server

bux runs Claude Code as an always-on agent with a persistent Chromium browser, Browser Use Cloud, and optional Telegram access. It is for people who want browser tasks available from a VPS or other Ubuntu machine.

Overview

bux packages Claude Code and browser automation as a persistent service on a machine you control. It connects a real Chromium session through Browser Use Cloud, keeping browser state such as cookies and logins between sessions, and can accept requests through Telegram or a web terminal.

It is aimed at users who need an always-available browser agent rather than a one-off automation script. When a task reaches a login, 2FA, or CAPTCHA step, the agent can hand over a live browser view for human intervention.

Key Features

  • Keeps Claude Code available as a long-running agent managed by systemd.
  • Uses Chromium through browser-harness and Browser Use Cloud.
  • Persists browser and agent state under /home/bux across reboots.
  • Offers an optional Telegram bot interface for sending the agent tasks.
  • Provides a web terminal for access when SSH is inconvenient.
  • Supports human intervention through a live browser view for login, 2FA, and CAPTCHA challenges.
  • Includes an idempotent installer and configurable agent instructions in agent/CLAUDE.md.

Use Cases

  • A solo developer can run browser tasks from Telegram while away from their workstation.
  • An operations or support team can use a persistent agent for browser work that requires logged-in sessions, with a person available for handoffs.
  • A user testing browser automation can keep a Chromium session and agent state on a VPS instead of rebuilding them for each run.
  • Teams that prefer not to provision their own machine can consider the linked managed offering, while keeping in mind it is a separate service.

Getting Started

The installer targets an Ubuntu machine and requires a Browser Use Cloud API key:

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/browser-use/bux/main/install.sh \
  | sudo BROWSER_USE_API_KEY=bu_xxx bash

See the repository README and install.md for setup, Telegram configuration, and troubleshooting.

Alternatives

  • browserable: Browserable is a self-hostable automation library with JavaScript and REST interfaces, rather than an always-on Claude Code agent with Telegram access.
  • magentic-ui: MagenticLite focuses on supervised browser and local-file workflows with human approval, rather than unattended, persistent browser tasks.
  • BrowserOS: BrowserOS provides AI browser automation on a local desktop, rather than a VPS-hosted Claude Code agent with a persistent Chromium browser.

Considerations

  • The documented baseline is Ubuntu 22.04 or later with at least 2 GB RAM; the project is intended to run on a machine you provide.
  • Browser automation depends on a Browser Use Cloud API key. The README also requires an Anthropic API key or Claude Max subscription for Claude Code login.
  • Telegram access is optional and requires a bot token. Human handoff is still needed for some authentication and anti-bot challenges.
  • This is a Python repository, but the deployment also relies on Claude Code, Chromium, systemd, and external cloud services. The README describes a managed offering separately from self-hosting.
  • The repository was created in 2026, so its history is relatively recent; inspect the installation and security implications before exposing services or entrusting it with sensitive browser sessions.
